Essential learnings are the minimum of what we want our students to learn. They are central to what is most important in the curriculum, and what we want our students to focus on learning.

How Do We Determine What Are Essential Learnings?

Essential learnings are determined as collaborative teacher teams.

They cannot be determined by one teacher, the determination of essential learnings must encompass the views of many teachers.

They must be selected by keeping in mind what students need to know to be prepared for the following school year and the future.
