Collaboration

Collaboration is essential to a PLC for it makes continuous improvement possible. Collaboration sees members of the PLC working interdependently to analyze their practice to determine what is working well, and what needs to be done to achieve the best possible results for the students, team, and school. Interdependence is key to collaboration for it achieves results through joint action, in which everyone relies on one another.

In order to achieve consensus, the topic or idea must be introduced and brought to the attention of the audience. This topic will be opened for discussion and any questions or concerns. At this time, the team will decide if they will come to a consensus, how long it will take, and what will be done if a consensus is not reached. It is important to acknowledge that there will be differences and similarities, and to explore and encourage those ideas. During this time, suggestions and modifications should be made. From collaboration of the topic, a new idea may be made based on the discussion. The facilitator will be in charge to check for a consensus. If a consensus is not reached, then the facilitator will step in to help form a new idea for consensus. Some members may be struggling, however, the facilitator is there to help. There may be a request for a few day trial period, therefore, the facilitator must test for consensus once again with support from the entire group.

Consensus

Our classroom Norms:

1.       We will make decisions by consensus and agree to honor them

2.         We will share and embody the same commitment and effort

3.         We will utilize different strengths to promote creativity

4.         We will respectfully hold each other accountable for our work

5.         We will acknowledge our successes through celebrations

In a PLC, team norms are a set of commitments developed by the team that govern member’s behaviour. Norms help clarify the expectations of working together and reflect the vision of the group.
